Went out last night to see my buddies SixSixCrush. I don't always go out on a school night anymore unless its a special occasion. I wasn't going to miss the opportunity to see Seth rock out. As of last Wednesday, he's officially a father! He and his wife Nikki gave birth to a baby girl-Aubry-and I needed to congratulate him. Plus, I wanted to see if fatherhood had slowed down the old man. It has not. He still "sings" about evil goblins and such, just as he always has.
I met Seth probably once or twice back in the day when he'd come to visit Timmer in Bemidji. However it wasn't really 8 years or so ago that we really got to know each other. I have fond memories of those times.... Seth and I would always be conniving at the parties and biding our time until we could sneak to the stereo; shutting off the Grateful Dead or Phish or whatever other garbage was playing. If it was Saturday night we'd turn the radio to KFAI for the Root Of All Evil and crank it up. We'd giggle as we waited to see how long it would take the "hippies" to notice.....or the time I picked he and Shacks up to go to some show and I had Shout at the Devil in the tape deck. We tortured Sarah as we screamed along and punched the ceiling, "SHOUT, SHOUT, SHOUT AT THE DEVIL!"....or the time I had Seth over to a party at a place I was house sitting and he sat in the corner, high as a mofo, picking the tunes; the Dwarves, the Groovie Ghoulies and Murder City Devils....or the time he and Rob/Bob invited me along on the infamous Coffin Cheaters 2 day tour of NYC as their roadie slash filmer slash guy who didn't have to pay for gas. Seth brought a pack of bologna and a loaf of bread to cut down of his food costs. That shit was gone in like three hours....or the fact that I can always count on him for making fun of my hair.....or that we always make fun of the other bands....or the time I was sitting on a bench in Uptown waiting for a bus late at night when all of a sudden Seth pulled up to the stoplight. I frantically waved and finally got his attention. He looked over at me, flipped me the double-bird, smiled and drove off. Fucking classic. I wasn't even mad. In fact I had no choice but to laugh.
Anyway, we don't go to as many shows together as we used to, so it's always a pleasure to see him. He had a huge smile on his face last night, as he often times does, but this time it was different. He was glowing....and he should be. He's a dad now.
